Location of Job: Salt Lake City
When: Jul 1, 2017
Service Category: Residential
Services Performed: License Procurement
Brief Explanation

Getting a license to paint is a big deal.  We just reconfigured our license and it got me thinking about why licensing in a trade such as painting is important.

Painting Licenses Help Filter Out The Bad Guys

Although there are many painters that offer high-quality work without being licensed (we were that, once upon a time) the vast majority of sub-standard paint jobs come from unlicensed painters and painting companies. These folks just don't care enough to do the work and pay the fees to get a license that indicates you are at least on the state's radar.

Now, as I said, not all unlicensed painters are necessarily bad. However, a few years ago Utah made it illegal to do any type of contract work on homes without being licensed. They recognized that with the growth and constant construction in the state, all contractors should be minimally regulated. And so we are.

Besides helping to filter the poor-quality painters, licensing also helps to filter out the con artists that prey upon so many. There are many scams going around and painting is not immune—yet another reason not to pay everything up front unless you are working with a reputable company that has a great reputation.

By paying attention to these indicators, you can protect yourself, family and home from people who could be terrible painters at the least and potentially serious crooks.

Insured? Yes we are.

Another factor in licensing is that most unlicensed painters are also not insured. We are. What this means to you is that when someone gets injured, our insurance covers it.

Whether we are talking about worker's compensation insurance which covers wages as well as medical expenses or our general insurance which also covers property damage in case something adverse happens, insurance can separate the wheat from the chaff as it were.

When you are considering a painter, or any other contractor for that matter, make sure you are protected by knowing their license and insurance!

Our license number is 10397690-5501.
Our workers comp and general liability insurance number is Z74900.

Location of Job: Salt Lake City, UT
When: Jan 17, 2017
Service Category: Commercial
Services Performed: Interior Painting of Office
Brief Explanation

Rocky Mountain Painters also does commercial painting in Utah. For this job we painted an office in Salt Lake City. The job was amazing! At least, I really loved working on it because of the various things we did and I thought the painted office turned out looking great.

Painting the coffered ceiling was a lot of work, but worth it in the end. We also painted the bookshelf and painted the cabinet and for both used the Urbane Bronze from the Sherwin-Williams color deck. I like this color! It is a dark paint, enough to make a great accent, but not black. This bronze paint was a perfect choice.

As you can see there was a lot of intricate work to paint the coffered ceiling, but using an airless-on primer and painting a finish coat, it was enough.

After painting the woodwork on the ceiling, we taped the edges and brushed and rolled a flat white paint on the ceiling flats and the painted coffered ceiling really popped!

From there we painted the office walls using a creamy white paint which really brought everything together. Rocky Mountain Painters was especially pleased with this project because we got many references from this extremely satisfied customer.

Job Details

Location of Job: North Salt Lake, UT
When: Jan 19, 2017
Service Category: Residential
Services Performed: Interior Painting, Basement Finish
Brief Explanation

Have you ever needed a painter for a basement finish? If you have, or will need one soon, you will appreciate the basement finishing paint job we did at this home in Eaglewood, North Salt Lake.

This is a new basement remodel, and it had a lot of shelves that needed painting. The shelves required a lot of prep work with caulking the shelves and all other woodwork and spackling the nail holes so that when we painted the shelves, they would look great.

Spackling, in my opinion, is an art because if you apply it too thick you can lose time sanding, and if you don't apply enough the hole will sink and need another coat.

We then applied a stain-blocking primer to all of the shelves, door-casings and base. Next comes tacking the doors together and double coating with a good top-coat finish, usually a quality acrylic-enamel. Then we store the doors in an unpainted room like the cold storage until we can paint the remainder of the basement.

To paint the new basement, we started out with the ceilings. I use Sherwin-Williams Super Paint because it is best for coverage on ceilings. It is also durable, so it has been a mainstay to repaint ceilings for me.

We sanded the casings and paint them with two coats using a good semi-gloss or gloss. It makes them easier to clean later with all the kids. When the painted basement casings are dry, we Frog-tape© all woodwork and apply the walls with an egg-shell or satin.

After we finished painting the basement and they put in new flooring and other amenities it looked great and Rocky Mountain Painters came through again with a very happy customer!

We are so happy with Rocky Mountain Painters. I've been trying for years to find painters who would tackle a very difficult room with layers of old jobs on it. Finally, I found Rocky Mountain Painters who took the job and turned my walls from a mess into something beautiful. I can't say enough good things about them and their good work. They are friendly, quick, efficient, reasonably priced, honest, and bend over backward to please. I highly recommend them!
